Shipping & Health Guarantee

At Dark Paws Maine Coon Kittens, the health, safety, and long-term well-being of our kittens is our highest priority. This policy outlines our standards for transportation and the health guarantees provided with every kitten placed in a new home.

Please read this policy carefully before placing a deposit.

Shipping Policy (USA Only)

We offer domestic shipping within the United States only. International shipping is not available at this time.

All shipping arrangements are made with the kitten’s safety, comfort, and health as the top priority.

Approved Shipping Methods

Shipping options are determined based on the kitten’s age, size, weather conditions, and destination.

✈️ Flight Nanny (Preferred Method)
A professional flight nanny personally accompanies the kitten in the cabin and delivers them to the buyer at a major airport.

  • In-cabin travel only
  • Continuous supervision and care
  • Least stressful option
  • Buyer meets the nanny at the airport

🚗 Ground Transport (Select Locations)
For shorter distances, a licensed ground pet transporter may be used.

  • Climate-controlled vehicle
  • Regular care and monitoring
  • Coordinated delivery with buyer

🚫 Cargo shipping is never used under any circumstances.

Shipping Costs

  • Shipping fees are not included in the kitten’s purchase price
  • Costs vary by distance and transport method
  • A final shipping quote is provided before travel is booked
  • Shipping fees must be paid in full prior to transport
  • Shipping fees are non-refundable once booked

Travel Requirements

Before shipping, each kitten must:

  • Be at least 10–12 weeks old
  • Be examined and cleared by a licensed veterinarian
  • Be current on age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Be de-wormed
  • Receive a health certificate if required

Dark Paws reserves the right to delay shipping if weather, airline rules, or health conditions make travel unsafe.

Weather & Safety Delays

Shipping may be delayed due to:

  • Extreme heat or cold
  • Airline restrictions
  • Health concerns
  • Travel disruptions beyond our control

Delays made in the best interest of the kitten do not qualify for refunds.

Buyer Responsibilities (Shipping)

The buyer agrees to:

  • Be on time and available for scheduled delivery
  • Provide accurate contact information
  • Meet flight nannies promptly at the airport
  • Follow post-arrival care instructions

Failure to comply may result in additional fees.

Health Guarantee

Dark Paws guarantees that each kitten is in good health at the time of departure and has been raised according to responsible breeding and veterinary standards.

Veterinary Care Before Adoption

Each kitten:

  • Is examined by a licensed veterinarian
  • Is de-wormed
  • Receives age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Is raised in a clean, socialized home environment

Documentation is provided at the time of adoption.

72-Hour Health Guarantee

The buyer has 72 hours from the time of pickup or delivery to have the kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian.

If the veterinarian finds a life-threatening congenital condition, the buyer must notify Dark Paws immediately and provide written veterinary documentation.

At our discretion, one of the following may be offered:

  • Replacement kitten (when available)
  • Partial refund of the purchase price

Shipping fees are non-refundable.

Genetic Health Guarantee

Dark Paws provides a genetic health guarantee against fatal hereditary conditions for one (1) year from the date of adoption.

This guarantee does not cover:

  • Illness caused by stress, parasites, or environmental factors
  • Injuries or accidents
  • Neglect or improper care
  • Feline viruses contracted after leaving our care

Buyer Responsibilities (Health)

To maintain the health guarantee, the buyer agrees to:

  • Provide proper nutrition and care
  • Maintain regular veterinary visits
  • Follow vaccination schedules
  • Avoid exposure to unvaccinated animals
  • Keep the kitten indoors or safely supervised

Failure to provide appropriate care voids the health guarantee.

No Guarantees on Size, Color, or Temperament

While Maine Coons are a large breed, we cannot guarantee:

  • Adult size or weight
  • Final coat color or pattern
  • Personality traits

These are influenced by genetics, environment, and development.
